Welcome to the Wellness Law Essentials Continuing Ed Course!
Course Description:
This 5 hour continuing education course provides health coaches with foundational legal literacy essential for ethical and compliant practice. Drawing from the book Quick & Easy Wellness Law, the course addresses key legal issues that arise in unlicensed wellness practice, including scope of practice, the use of lab testing, supplement recommendations, telehealth delivery, and business structuring. Wellness practitioners such as health coaches, personal trainers, energy healers, and others will learn how to distinguish between legally permissible wellness services and regulated healthcare activities such as diagnosing or treating medical conditions. The course also outlines strategies to reduce liability, such as using client agreements, forming LLCs, and avoiding misleading claims. Participants will engage with real-world legal scenarios and apply ethical frameworks aligned with the NBHWC Code of Ethics. Wellness practitioners will finish the course with a clearer understanding of their legal boundaries and enhanced confidence in offering services that support client well-being without overstepping professional limits.
This course is ideal for new and experienced wellness practitioners who want to strengthen their understanding of wellness law and protect their practices while maintaining client trust and ethical standards.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this course, the participant will be able to:
- Distinguish between legally permissible wellness services and the regulated practice of healthcare (e.g., medicine, psychology, dietetics), ensuring compliance with scope of practice laws across U.S. jurisdictions.
- Identify and apply essential legal protections—including client agreements, informed consent, disclaimers, and appropriate business structures—to minimize legal risk in a wellness coaching practice.
- Apply ethical principles in legally complex situations, such as supplement recommendations, lab test discussions, and client referrals, using structured ethical decision-making models.
